Technical Design T-Shirt Development DTC Streetwear Spec Writing
Overview

The brand had a vision.
The factory had nothing to work with.

A DTC streetwear brand came to UREÑA Studio with a clear product direction — a heavyweight t-shirt with a precise, boxy silhouette, intentional drop-shoulder construction, and the kind of quality that earns repeat customers. The problem: they had no technical documentation a factory could actually follow.

The brand had strong visual references and a defined aesthetic, but zero spec documentation — nothing measurable, nothing the factory could price or sample against. Without a spec, every interpretation was a guess. Without a validated guess, every sample was a risk.

Process

Building the spec from the body up.

UREÑA Studio built the technical specification from scratch — starting with a fit session on three body types to establish the intended silhouette, then translating every design intention into measurable, unambiguous language that a production team couldn't misread or second-guess.

Key deliverables included: a full Point of Measure (POM) document with 12 new measurement callouts, a grade rule file that locked the drop-shoulder pitch and side-seam sweep across all sizes, and a fabric construction spec defining GSM, weave structure, and acceptable deviation tolerances.

The result was a spec document the factory could execute without a single clarification call — and a workflow the client could repeat on every style that followed.

Outcome

First sample 90% approved. Production launched on schedule.

Two minor fit corrections — sleeve length and neck rib tension — were resolved in a single revision cycle. The brand hit their production window without an additional sample round. The factory now has a documentation standard they can reference for every future style.
